Our topic this term is going to be full of castles, magic and fantasy! We've already got stuck in with our learning and have so many ideas and questions for things we'd like to find out. It's going to be a very inspiring term!
Please take a look at the topic web below to see a brief overview of the things we will be covering in our lessons this term.
This term, we are using 'Winnie the Witch' by Valerie Thomas and Korky Paul as our focus text. We have been learning and retelling the story so that we are very familiar with the language and sequencing. We can use our story maps to help us retell the story by heart. Please encourage us to do this at home! There are copies of our story maps to take home to help us too. We will be using this story as a starting point for our own story writing so it is very important that we know it very well!
There are lots of alternative versions of Winnie the Witch and it would be great to have a look at these in the library. This is also one of our homework tasks for this term!
As you can see, we have been incredibly lucky in Key Stage One over the Christmas period!
We are beginning to update our reading scheme and replace some of our older books. It is very important to us to keep a wide variety of styles and to broaden the range of difficulty. We have received over 250 books to start this incredibly costly process at a value of over £1000.
There are some particularly lovely books in these ranges and I cannot wait to hear all about the new stories from the children!
Due to the arrival of these new books, there has been some reshuffling and changes to our reading scheme bands, specifically in the introduction of the new colour levels at the top end. These will be explained to the children as they reach them, but do check with us if you're not sure!
